2008 Habits - 2nd quarter update

Continuing from my 1st quarter update, here's the latest on my attempt to acquire a habit a month.

I only have three new habits:

1. I've given up hamburgers (which all but eliminated fast food joints from my list, except that I've been indulging in McDonald's fries and chicken nuggets).
2. I've given up all chips (I'm addicted to Lay's original potato chips), except for nachos (I've got to give myself some leeway).
3. I've been saving (more than) 20% of my income--even if I failed to keep a daily record of all my expenses.

The breakdown:

In May, I tried to remove red meat from my diet, but I failed the challenge of Cebu lechon--happily. I also tried writing down all the food I ate again, but I became too lazy.

In June, I was successful at getting rid of chips. I also tried to take down all my expenses again, but maybe it's just not for me, no matter how OC I can get.

My dark side (that little voice that keeps saying "You're not ready") is telling me keeping records would be easier with a PDA or something, but I'm putting my foot down. I need discipline, not some fancy schmancy gadget. I will, however, reward myself with one once I convince myself it won't be my crutch.

Thanks to my records, though, I've found out exactly how much to budget for a week's expenses, going out with friends considered.

For July, I don't know yet what I should wean myself off from. The past six months were more of getting back on the wagon with failed habits (like accounting for what I ate and how much I spent), but no more of that now.

All I know is that I've been steadily gaining weight, and it's time for a new weight goal. Shucks. I'm thinking of giving up carbs again, but I'll get back to you on that one.
